About

Dr. Shakira Espada-Campos brings more than two decades of direct practice experience to her role as the Chief of Behavioral Health at MD Live. She began her career in the non-profit sector working with children and families in trauma recovery, later transitioning to intensive trauma-informed work with adults struggling with PTSD and SMI. Prior to joining MD Live, Dr. Espada-Campos held clinical leadership positions in community mental health and psychiatric settings where she served as a practice supervisor, lead clinician, and clinical expert. She brings an extensive history of developing, implementing, and maturing programs across private, public, and academic settings to her role leading MD Live's behavioral health program. She is a progressive thinker and collaborator committed to ethical and best practices offering key insights on assessment, diagnosis, and clinical nuance on various populations.

Dr. Espada-Campos’ dedication to social justice and advocacy propels her to support the development of the next generation of social work professionals. She is committed to mentorship of students, clinical research, and training opportunities integrating a framework that accounts for culturally competent practice, larger systemic implications on service delivery, and clinical outcomes among vulnerable communities.

Dr. Espada-Campos earned her Bachelor of Arts in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Florida, Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of Georgia, and her Doctor of Clinical Social Work (DSW) from the University of Pennsylvania. She currently resides in Northern Virginia and is clinically licensed to practice in Connecticut, Hawaii, Washington, and Virginia.
