About
Dr. Westergan serves as the Associate Chief Medical Officer of Connected Musculoskeletal Solutions at EviCore, an Evernorth company, and is responsible for clinical leadership of 100+ surgeons, physicians, chiropractors, and therapists. He is accountable for the clinical integrity of EviCore’s evidence-based guidelines for utilization management of elective spine/extremity and joint advanced diagnostic imaging, spine surgery, joint surgery, interventional pain procedures, specialized therapies, and site-of-care optimization.
Dr. Westergan is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with more than 27 years of practice experience in both academic and community settings. His background as a physician executive includes leadership positions with health plans, multispecialty and single-specialty physician group practices, physician hospital organizations, independent practice associations, hospital administrations, hospital medical staffs, healthcare employer coalitions, and professional organizations such as the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the American Medical Association. He has also led a CMS deeming authority for the accreditation of advanced imaging facilities and credentialing of home health care facilities and physicians. As a consultant to the Office of the Inspector General (OIG), Dr. Westergan assisted in the development of OIG advisory opinions regarding various gain-sharing arrangements of Medicare beneficiaries.
Dr. Westergan earned his M.D. magna cum laude from Georgetown University. He completed his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery and General Surgery at Yale – New Haven Hospital, where he served as the Chief Resident of Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Westergan completed his Fellowship in Adult Orthopaedic Reconstructive Surgery at Mayo Clinic/Mayo Graduate School of Medicine.
